As for the type of game, typically the Uncharted games are 50% third person shooter, 40% platformer, and 10% puzzles. You could think of them as a modern Tomb Raider, but even that is a bit of a disservice. What the games are truly about is a blend of cinema and game in a way that no one else has accomplished.

It is very hard to describe what makes Uncharted great. I could tell you about how they have what could easily be the best cast of characters in any game, but it's hard to explain why this is and how they bring them to life. I could tell you about how their animation systems are far greater than any other game, but how do I describe all of the subtleties that make this true. It's hard to promote a game based on graphical merit, but for Uncharted the graphics are part of the experience. And yes, while it is true that they didn't pioneer any major gameplay mechanics, they have numerous fine things that don't define the gameplay, but rather shape the experience.

The best advice I can give for any PS3 owner is to pick up the Dual Pack. If you don't, you are doing yourself a major disservice. Uncharted 2 didn't win over 200 game of the year awards for nothing.
